Re “Intelligence Boosters,” by Art Brown (Op-Ed, Dec. 14):
After three and a half years in World War II military intelligence, my father was hired by the C.I.A. in 1947.
Mr. Brown’s analysis of current C.I.A. practices asks why the agency doesn’t draw on “the expertise of academia” and of other “normal” citizens. That is exactly what my father did in a New England university town during the last 18 years before he retired.
How did the dream of an agency formed to gather and to analyze all manner of intelligence for our government become a nightmare?
