Rupert Murdoch's Expanding Empire is Ominous

MEDIA-US: Murdoch's Expanding Empire Seen as "Ominous"
By Khody Akhavi

WASHINGTON, Aug 2 (IPS) - Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch added one of the most respected brands in journalism to his already vast media empire this week.... In the midst of a very public negotiation which had much of U.S. journalism recoiling in horror, Murdoch also announced his intention to launch Fox Business Network, which will begin broadcasting this October.

And it appears the News Corp. Chairman has every intention of using the journalistic resources of Dow Jones to bolster his fledgling business channel.

"Murdoch has a long and sordid history of discarding the accepted norms of honest journalism in order to advance his own political and corporate agenda," wrote Eric Boehlert, a senior fellow at Media Matters in America, in a statement published on the progressive media watchdog group's website.

"Of particular concern is Murdoch's plan to use the Journal to help launch the Fox Business Network, which will be overseen by Fox News boss and former Republican strategist Roger Ailes," Boehlert said.

The convergence of Dow Jones and Murdoch's FOX Business Network makes the NBC-owned and operated CNBC a prime target. In 1997, CNBC formed a strategic alliance with Dow Jones, including content sharing with Dow Jones Newswires and the Journal and the rebranding of the channel as "a service of NBC and Dow Jones."

Yet Murdoch and Ailes have criticised the channel for not being business friendly. "Many times I've seen things on CNBC where they are not as friendly to corporations and profits as they should be," Ailes told the New York Times.

"They [Murdoch and Ailes] say they are going to challenge this pernicious bias. Their argument is that CNBC is too anti-business, but that's hard to fathom if you've ever watched it," Peter Hart, a media analyst at Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) told IPS.

While the coupling of Dow Jones and the new FOX venture is a victory for proponents of media consolidation, much of the anger throughout the journalist community has been directed at Murdoch's acquisition of the Journal -- a publication many in the U.S. believe to be the most respected name in business reporting.

Critics have decried the Dow Jones sale, arguing that Murdoch has rarely improved any news media company he has purchased, and that he will in all likelihood turn the highly respected Journal into a mouthpiece for his own political views, as he has done with the Fox News Channel.

While the Journal isn't exactly a beacon of liberal opinion -- its editorial pages boast some of the most right-wing and conservative voices in the U.S. -- the paper remains an iconic publication known for its serious and credible reporting tradition. Negative sentiments were voiced by Journal reporters themselves, who, when speaking on the condition of anonymity to the Los Angeles Times, reacted bitterly to news of the sale.

The fear is that Murdoch will imbue the Journal with the same sensationalism and, it is widely acknowledged, biased news coverage found on Fox News and in the pages of the New York Post. Thirty years ago, Murdoch purchased the liberal tabloid for 30 million dollars and promised not to alter it. Currently, the paper is regarded as a right-wing gossip rag.

"Murdoch doesn't practice journalism; he molds diverse media into a single voice. It's a dangerous uniformity -- threatening the democratic discourse a free press sustains as well as enabling wars by conniving with bellicose politicians," wrote John Nichols in a report in the Nation magazine.

News Corp. owns such media companies as the Fox News Channel, Twentieth Century Fox movie studios, the New York Post, the Weekly Standard, the Times of London, publications in England and Australia, satellite television networks in Europe and Asia, as well as the popular peer-networking group MySpace.

The recent buy-out of Dow Jones gives Murdoch Barron's Financial Weekly, Dow Jones Newswires and the Ottaway community papers.

In a letter published Wednesday in WSJ, publisher L. Gordon Crovitz reassured readers that his staff would work diligently to maintain the newspaper's editorial independence and to continue practicing accurate journalism.

In fact, he wrote, "accurate and independent journalism" was the first topic discussed by Murdoch and Bancroft family during the negotiations. According to Crovitz, the News Corp. Chairman told the Bancroft family that "any interference -- or even a hint of interference -- would break the trust that exists between the paper and its readers, something I am unwilling to countenance. Apart from breaching the public's trust, it would simply be bad business."

In order to safeguard long-standing standards of conduct -- among them "no hidden agendas" and a promise to accurately and fairly represent "the facts" -- a special committee was created to protect the Journal's newsroom from attempts to steer coverage that may advance Murdoch's interests.

While Murdoch may not initially tamper with the editorial content of the Journal, his ownership does place him in a position to directly challenge the New York Times. It would not be surprising if Murdoch engaged in a less overt campaign to woo advertisers away from that paper by offering cheaper advertising rates, according to Hart.

"That's the playbook. Go after you competitors, go after their ad rates so they lose the support from advertisers," said Hart. "You have to have money to push a price war, and if [Murdoch] did that, there would be no surprise."

Dark past behind school's demise

Former students of private religious college tell of exorcisms and harsh discipline

MICHAEL VALPY AND CAROLINE ALPHONSO
FROM FRIDAY'S GLOBE AND MAIL
AUGUST 31, 2007

TORONTO AND BROCKVILLE, ONT. — A private religious school that charged up to $35,000 a year for tuition has abruptly closed its doors amid allegations of sexual improprieties and cult practices.

Citing rising costs and a drop in enrolment, officials at Grenville Christian College, which sits on one square kilometre on the edge of the St. Lawrence River town of Brockville, Ont., announced at the end of July it would
close.

Students who attended the school over a period dating back to the 1980s paint a picture of a bizarre environment, involving so-called “light sessions” where teenagers were ordered from their beds in the middle of the night, made to sit in a dark room with a bright light shining on their face and accused repeatedly of being sinners by teachers and staff they couldn't see.

The Right Rev. Peter Mason, the retired bishop of the Anglican diocese of Ontario, which includes Brockville, said he had heard allegations from former staff members of cult behaviour at the school but had not been aware it involved students.

Christian sect with shadowy past has 'evolved over the years'

Students from that period have told The Globe and Mail they feel psychologically damaged by their time at the school, which accepted children from the age of 6.

Andrew Hale-Byrne, a British civil servant who graduated from the school in the 1990s, said former students from the past 30 years have begun sharing their experiences at Grenville after one of their number created a message board on an Internet site devoted to cults.

Mr. Hale-Byrne told of being summoned at night to the school chapel and being made to endure an experience that he described as an exorcism, a liturgy for casting out of demons. Mr. Hale-Byrne, who was 16 at the time, said yesterday he felt afraid and isolated.

“Our parents had no idea, and a lot of people always ask the question, ‘How did your parents not clue in to this?'

From my perspective, being British, all I can say is that my parents were quite reserved, they were quite wealthy, they were very distant. I tried to tell them briefly about it, and they said, ‘Oh, you're just in a new culture;

Canadians do things differently.' Also we weren't with our parents and they [at the school] knew that.”

Present and former staff interviewed by The Globe and Mail acknowledged being aware of the allegations – headmaster Rev. Gordon Mintz called them “disconcerting” – but said they were without foundation.

Rev. Mintz, an Anglican priest, said the school had a “regimented schedule. We pushed people to excellence.”

The message board links Grenville – which counts two former Ontario lieutenant-governors, a senator and a former Canadian high commissioner to the United Kingdom among its “patrons” – to a titular Anglican group
known as the Community of Jesus in Massachusetts, which has been labelled a mind-control cult in the U.S.

The community's founders, Mother Cay Andersen and Mother Judy Sorensen, were invited to Grenville in 1973 (“to show us God's prayerful way of doing things,” according to long-time headmaster Rev. Charles Farnsworth) and lived there for several months.

For years afterward, the community sent its children, especially those considered rebellious, to Grenville.

Both it and the school believed children should be separated from their parents for considerable periods of time because parents were prone to “idolatrize” their offspring and not teach them discipline.

There have been about 1,000 posts to the message board by former students and teachers, several of whom The Globe and Mail has interviewed.

As well as facing the so-called light sessions, students talked of being sentenced to “discipline”: ordered not to speak for a week, or assigned to wash dishes, scrub toilets or cut the lawn with scissors, or – especially when the alleged sin involved contact with the opposite sex – be suspended for weeks.

Many of the students say that throughout their years at Grenville, they were constantly told by staff how mediocre they were so as not to develop pride and turn away from God.

According to a number of students, some senior staff at the school seemed obsessed with sex. Jay Thompson, who runs a community advertising website out of Toronto and graduated from Grenville in 1995, said girls were required to bend over in their dormitories in the morning to make sure their underpants couldn't be seen and had their drawers regularly rifled by teachers to ensure they wore only the most modest garments.

Girls who let their hair grow too long were summoned before staff and told they were Jezebels – the name for the biblical temptress who turned an ancient king of Israel away from God.

Jesse Noonan of Ottawa recalled in an interview being asked over and over again by a teacher for minute details on his sexual encounter with a girl.

Mr. Thompson said he was not allowed to graduate because he brought his girlfriend to the graduation ceremony.

A female student alleged in a message-board posting that insulting sexual comments were made to her by a teacher who also licked her neck.

Michael Phelan, of Binghamton, N.Y., the son of a former headmaster and a professional musician, said he was ordered by staff not to play the piano for long periods of time because it would make him “haughty.”

He said in an interview he continues to have regular nightmares about his time at the school.

Bishop Mason, who said he had a “pastoral but not canonical relationship” with the school when he was head of the Kingston-based Ontario diocese, said he was aware staff members were subjected to the light sessions but not students.

Although both the former and current headmasters, Rev. Farnsworth and Rev. Mintz, are Anglican priests, Bishop Mason implied that the school was Anglican in name only. He said the school was not under the church's control.

The website has a lot of discussion about the possibility of taking civil or criminal action against the school, but no suits have been launched. Grenville County Ontario Provincial Police said they have no complaints against the school on file.

Grenville College

Known as St. Mary's School in the early 1900s, and set up for young boys who wanted to become priests.

The main building was built in 1902 by a Redemptorist order of Catholic priests.

In 1969, it was sold to Berean Christian Schools, led by the Reverends Al Haig and Charles Farnsworth.

Grenville Christian College was created in the early 1970s as an ecumenical Christian school for young men and women. A number of new facilities, including the dining room, staff apartments, a gymnasium, track and chapel
were added while Rev. Farnsworth and his wife, Betty, headed the school.

GCC is situated on 107 hectares of lawns and forest overlooking the St. Lawrence River in Brockville, Ont.

The school motto is Copiosa Apud Eum Redemptio (In Him is Plenteous Redemption).

It claims 98 per cent of its graduates are accepted to universities and colleges of their choice.

GCC is a registered non-profit organization.

BBC: WWII Re-Enactors Share Nazi Views

Members of a neo-Nazi organization have joined a British group of war re-enactors who specialize in playing World War II Germans, the BBC reports.

A film crew for the BBC show "Panorama" got tape of members of the Second Battle Group complaining about Muslims and blacks. Some claim to be members of Blood and Honor, a group that has adopted Nazi racial ideology.

The Second Battle Group, formed almost 30 years ago, has appeared in movies like Steven Spielberg’s “Saving Private Ryan.” The group’s Web site says it aims “to portray the fighting German Waffen SS soldier of WWII as accurately as possible.”

The BBC crew followed the group during a recent show in Kent, The (London) Telegraph reported. One man was filmed saying he would join the Waffen SS if it existed now.

“I believe we should be sorting these Muslims out," he said.

Another man, a German, used a racial epithet for blacks and said, “Our blood is no longer fresh.” (c) UPI

What's Wrong with Indira Singh, et al.?

By Alex Constantine

There is a simple but effective Himmlerian approach to propaganda employed widely since 9/11 that combines the limited hang-out with a tactical lie, a clever sleight of hand: the eye is fixed on the hang-out, so the lie passes without comment. The Birch Society - a hot bed of cold war intrigues - plied the technique, accusing the Eisenhower administration of numerous conspiratorial atrocites - many of them committed in fact by Birch nazis in the military-industrial sector - going so far as to denounce him as a "communist agent."

Daniel Hopsicker, for example, melds CIA scandal with Mohammed Atta's antics to reinforce the notion that the Bin Laden organization was behind 9/11. The formula that places the CIA and Atta - or "the mastermind of 9/11," per Hopsicker, an echo of Bush's shallow rhetoric - in league supports the administration's charge that storm clouds of Islamo-Fascism hailed death and devastation on Manhattan. And that's the purpose of Daniel "NBC" Hopsicker's reporting, to reinforce the programming and give the cover story some artificial limbs to stand on.

The famed Ptech story embodies the same brainwash formula. The CIA and a Boston software firm are lumped with Qaeda to build on the programmed belief that Bin Laden was behind 9/11.

Yes, there does seem to be a scandal stewing, and it implicates Cheney and insidious others - it will go nowhere, like Hopsicker's CIA-drug scams - but the story hooks conspiracists and provides nourishment to the belief that a muslim "flying circus" took down the Trade Center, not the Bush regime. Much is assumed - and this "scandal," too, reinforces the cover story - in the role of Ptech.

It can't, won't, will not be confirmed, but this conspiracy theory lingers to sidetrack and scapegoat.

The Bush administration orchestrated 9/11.

Any theory that says otherwise promotes the intelligence community's propaganda initiative, even those implicating spooks. Hopsicker and Indira Singh - formerly of Morgan banking interests and DARPA - are not investigative reporters ... they are Birch-style propagandists who promote tripe to shift responsibility to designated scapegoats, eg. the Saudis (who scapegoat the U.S. in return to take the heat off the sand Royals).

Hopsicker, of course, lauds Ms. Singh to shore up her baseless credibility: "Last week, when the National 9/11 Commission held hearings on The Aviation Security System and the 9/11 Attack, government and aviation officials described a system unprepared for the events that unfolded on September 11. None of them, however, mentioned security breaches involving 'Saudi terrorists in the basement of the FAA.' Yet that's what happened, according to a high-level risk analyst who had troubling dealings with the firm. 'Ptech had a couple of very troubling client relationships,' states risk architect and whistleblower Indira Singh, 'one of which was with the FAA. One of the 'persons of interest' in the investigation had a team in the basement of the FAA for two years. P-tech worked on a project that revealed all information processes and issues that the FAA had with the National Airspace Systems Agency, NAS,' Singh said. 'The project included incident investigation, law enforcement, military aviation systems, highly sensitive information, especially if you wanted to exploit the FAA’s current capabilities and holes… to jam or slow down U.S. military response to a domestic hijacking, for example.' Just the portion of the story above the waterline and already public record is shocking enough: Briefly, Saudi 'money man' Yasin al-Qadi, named by the Bush Administration as a financial backer of the al-Qaeda terrorist network, had funded a software start-up in Boston named Ptech, reported the Boston Globe over a year ago.... " (Source: http://www.madcowprod.com/mc4522004.html)

Chilling scandal ... the adrenals secrete and the hairs stand on the back of the neck ... a blogger (the name is not important) falls for it:

"Ptech

"Remember Ptech? That's the Boston software firm financed by Saudi businessman Yassin Al-Qadi, who also happens to be an al Qaeda bagman, whose clients happened to include numerous sensitive US federal branches and agencies, including the FAA, the FBI, the military and the White House.

"A little background, from the mainstream, even, thanks to WBZ-TV:

"Joe Bergantino, a reporter for WBZ-TV's investigative team, was torn. He could risk breaking a story based on months of work investigating a software firm linked to terrorism, or heed the government's demand to hold the story for national security reasons. In mid-June, Bergantino received a tip from a woman in New York who suspected that Ptech, a computer software company in Quincy, Mass., had ties to terrorists. Ptech specialized in developing software that manages information contained in computer networks.

"Bergantino's investigation revealed that Ptech's clients included many federal governmental agencies, including the U.S. Army, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Naval Air Command, Congress, the Department of Energy, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Internal Revenue Service, NATO, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Secret Service and even the White House.

"Ptech was doing business with every federal government in defense and had access to key government data," Bergantino said. ...

"Bergatino's tipster was Indira Singh, who has said she recognizes the separate command and control communications system Mike Ruppert describes Dick Cheney to have been running on September 11th as having "the exact same functionality I was looking to utilize [for] Ptech. ... "
••••••••••••••••
Blogger "bin'dare" responds:

Ptech may well have been a CIA asset but it certainly was not an example of "Al-Qaeda terrorist" infiltrating american government. Yet that is what Indira Singh claimed initially and in the process destroyed a rather promising company. Why? Was it because it was founded and run by a muslim with a number of muslim workers? That is certainly what gave the accusation traction.

Now she claims Ptech's software is the type that Ruppert says Cheney used on 9/11. How did she recognize it?

She says: "I was looking to set up a shadow surveillance system on everything going on, every transaction and the ability to backdoor, to look at information unobtrusively and to backdoor intelligent agents out there to do things that other people would not be aware of."

She is either lying, and if not, what the fuck is a consultant for a bank doing creating backdoor intelligent agents (i'm assuming these are software agents, not the physical thing)?

She stinks to high hell.

In response to the following headline, she said "I am sure the families of the victims of 9/11 will be glad to hear that."

Rumored links to terrorism doomed business: But owner of former Quincy company has no hard feelings

QUINCY - The Marina Bay software company raided by federal agents in late 2002 has become a ‘‘virtual company'' with no offices or staff.

Publicity about a Customs Service raid on Ptech's headquarters made it impossible for the 10-year-old company to attract new clients, CEO Oussama Ziade said yesterday.

So it laid off the last of its 50-person work force in October, shuttered its office, and now markets its technology through a third party

The bottom line is this: Indira Singh has publicly called Ptech "Effectively an Al Qaeda corporate cell", if this is true then Al-Qaeda is for real (as in wanting to penetrate america to bomb it), is not US (as in government) connected, and the Saudi's did 9-11 because they financed Al-Qaeda. This is not our reading of the situation, so why would she say this, and why would she be supported in saying it?

I do not know the answer, but i will lay out what i know of her (if there is any interest, i can supply the citations later). She is at the nexus of a number of important 9/11 strands so there may well be a lot more to her story; it is unfortunate that we do not have much info on her.

On the morning of 9/11, Singh had two things on her mind: she was scheduled for a risk assessment meeting at the WTC and she was on call as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). She was running late and was worried about being late for the meeting.

When she fot news of the attacks she called her company (i assume JP Morgan) to say there was an emergency and then went to join the rescue as an EMT. Her particular pre-assignment (the reason she was on call) was for triage. (Triage is were victums are evaluated and sorted by immediacy of treatment.) There is a photo of her during the rescue altho I have not seen it.

In early december, she gives an interview with UPI decrying the deterioration of her health, before the attacks "she was a mountain climber and a pilot and in the top physical condition of her life but since then she has a cough, onset asthma, chest pain and headaches that won't quit". Apparently she had left her windows open and the dust had got in. By summer of 2004, she is accusing the government of lying about contamination, about the toxicity of the dust, and is a regular at community meetings. She believes the original 9/11 dust is still in her apartment and hired (in 2004) an environmental scientist to prove it.

During interviews, Singh would identify herself as a "risk architect", a position that does not exist (as best i can tell). I think she was a consultant with/for JP Morgan on "risk assesment": financial risk management can be defined as practices by which a firm optimizes the manner in which it takes financial risk. It got tricky in the late 90's because companies were combining financial risk management, insurance purchasing, and contingency planning into a single business unit, that is, merging finance and insurance. A number of financial scandals arising out of this combination were looming, Enron was just the tip of the iceberg.

Singh says she consulted with many companies and government agencies including DoD and DARPA, but is rather vague about what she actually did.

The only thing i infer is that she had a relatively high security clearance.

I should note that she says she is a lifetime New Yorker, she does not speak with a foreign accent, but I can find nothing about her prior to 2001.

She began interacting with Ptech in the spring of 2002. She writes to FrontPage magazine (a rabid anti-muslim, rabib pro-zionist, rabib pro-likud site) in jan 2003 that "My thanks to Stephen Schwartz whose book had not been published when I was trying to put the Ptech pieces together between May and August 2002". Schwartz was big on Operation GreenQuest, Saudi's and Wahhabbi's. She says "Ptech, the facts, the exposures, the rationale, the patterns and story those facts tell are explained only by the existence of something like Mr. Schwartz describes".

We now know that no terrorists have been successfully tried (in america) for money laundering, not a single one.

My gut feeling is Indira Singh bought into the muslim terrorist thing at the beginning, but is confused, and some people may be taking advantage of that. She recently said "I hold real data implicating the Bush Administration in the events of 9/11. For me to do something with it, I have to leave, if only to be able to breathe". She combines 9/11 conspiracy with her health and well being.

U.S. commanders in Iraq request energy beam weapon

RICHARD LARDNER
Associated Press
August 29, 2007

WASHINGTON — Saddam Hussein had been gone just a few weeks, and U.S. forces in Fallujah, west of Baghdad, were already being called unwelcome invaders. One of the first big anti-American protests of the war escalated into shootouts that left 18 Iraqis dead and 78 wounded.

It would be a familiar scene in Iraq's next few years: Crowds gather, insurgents mingle with civilians. Troops open fire, and innocents die.

All the while, according to internal military correspondence obtained by The Associated Press, U.S. commanders were telling Washington that many civilian casualties could be avoided by using a new non-lethal weapon developed over the past decade.

Military leaders repeatedly and urgently requested — and were denied — the device, which uses energy beams instead of bullets and lets soldiers break up unruly crowds without firing a shot.

Robert Fisk: "Even I question the 'truth' about 9/11"

http://news.independent.co.uk/fisk/article2893860.ece

Robert Fisk column excerpt
25 August 2007

... I am increasingly troubled at the inconsistencies in the official narrative of 9/11. It's not just the obvious non sequiturs: where are the aircraft parts (engines, etc) from the attack on the Pentagon? Why have the officials involved in the United 93 flight (which crashed in Pennsylvania) been muzzled? Why did flight 93's debris spread over miles when it was supposed to have crashed in one piece in a field? Again, I'm not talking about the crazed "research" of David Icke's Alice in Wonderland and the World Trade Center Disaster – which should send any sane man back to reading the telephone directory.

I am talking about scientific issues. If it is true, for example, that kerosene burns at 820C under optimum conditions, how come the steel beams of the twin towers – whose melting point is supposed to be about 1,480C – would snap through at the same time? (They collapsed in 8.1 and 10 seconds.) What about the third tower – the so-called World Trade Centre Building 7 (or the Salmon Brothers Building) – which collapsed in 6.6 seconds in its own footprint at 5.20pm on 11 September? Why did it so neatly fall to the ground when no aircraft had hit it? The American National Institute of Standards and Technology was instructed to analyse the cause of the destruction of all three buildings. They have not yet reported on WTC 7. Two prominent American professors of mechanical engineering – very definitely not in the "raver" bracket – are now legally challenging the terms of reference of this final report on the grounds that it could be "fraudulent or deceptive".

Journalistically, there were many odd things about 9/11. Initial reports of reporters that they heard "explosions" in the towers – which could well have been the beams cracking – are easy to dismiss. Less so the report that the body of a female air crew member was found in a Manhattan street with her hands bound. OK, so let's claim that was just hearsay reporting at the time, just as the CIA's list of Arab suicide-hijackers, which included three men who were – and still are – very much alive and living in the Middle East, was an initial intelligence error.

But what about the weird letter allegedly written by Mohamed Atta, the Egyptian hijacker-murderer with the spooky face, whose "Islamic" advice to his gruesome comrades – released by the CIA – mystified every Muslim friend I know in the Middle East? Atta mentioned his family – which no Muslim, however ill-taught, would be likely to include in such a prayer. He reminds his comrades-in-murder to say the first Muslim prayer of the day and then goes on to quote from it. But no Muslim would need such a reminder – let alone expect the text of the "Fajr" prayer to be included in Atta's letter.

Australia's Fascist 'Exclusive Brethren' Cult Charged with Fixing Elections

Brethren still a cult in Rudd's book
Phillip Coorey
August 23, 2007

KEVIN RUDD considers the Exclusive Brethren an "extremist cult" that breaks up families and is bad for Australia.

He has rejected its requests in the past for a meeting and said yesterday he had no intention of changing that policy.

John Howard considers the secretive religious sect a "legal legitimate organisation" and said there was nothing untoward about meeting them.

Peter Costello, who has also met the Brethren on occasions, agrees. "This is no crime. In fact the crime would be if a Member of Parliament refused to meet someone on the basis of their religious convictions."

Labor and the Government had daggers drawn over the Exclusive Brethren yesterday after it emerged Mr Howard met a delegation of its leaders in his Parliament House office two weeks ago.

The Brethren bans its members from voting, forbids its women from going to university and does not allow the use of computers.

It contributed $370,000 to help Mr Howard get re-elected in Bennelong at the 2004 election.

At the August 8 meeting was Mark McKenzie, a Sydney pump salesman, whose former company Willmac funded the pro-Howard advertising. This spending was referred by the Australian Electoral Commission to the Federal Police, which is still investigating.

Others present included the sect's "Elect Vessel", Bruce Hales, his brother Stephen and elder Warwick John.

Labor frontbencher Anthony Albanese said the meeting was highly suspicious. "Exclusive Brethren don't believe in voting but do believe in interfering in election campaigns, and they have a history not only of covert funding and also engaging in personal attacks and smears against non-extreme right-wing conservative candidates," he said.

"Increasingly, [we see] a desperate Prime Minister who is prepared to associate even with sect organisations like Exclusive Brethren in order to hold onto his seat."

Mr Howard said funding was a matter between the Liberal Party and the Brethren but there was nothing wrong with him meeting them.

Howard defends meeting the Exclusive Brethren
22 August, 2007
Reporter: Peta Donald

... PETER COSTELLO: There's nothing wrong with meeting the Exclusive Brethren. They're Australian citizens, just like anybody else. They seek meetings with their Members of Parliament from time to time. Over the years I've had many meetings with the Exclusive Brethren, just as I have with people from other churches.

This is no crime. In fact the crime would be if a Member of Parliament refused to meet somebody on the basis of their religious convictions.

PETA DONALD: But for the Greens Senator Bob Brown the Exclusive Bretheren are different to other religious groups.

BOB BROWN: This is a sect which forbids its kids from eating or drinking with other kids. This is a sect which forbids thousands of its youngsters, all of them, from going to university. It's a sect which does not allow women to be in the workplace if they're in a superior position to men. And in fact after marriage it doesn't allow women into the workplace at all.

It's a sect which doesn't allow its members to vote or to engage in military service.

PETA DONALD: It's also a sect whose members have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on attack campaigns against the Greens in state elections in Australia, and New Zealand. Its members have bankrolled pro-conservative ads in the US and Canada. Its leaders are based in the Prime Minister's Sydney electorate of Bennelong - where one member's former company spent $370,000 on pro-John Howard ads at the last election.

The leaders of Exclusive Brethren don't speak to the media. A spokesman says the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister came up at the last minute. He says the leaders offered prayers, and talked about the economy - but politics and campaigning at the next election wasn't discussed.

Bob Brown.

BOB BROWN: It converts from the prayers offered in the Prime Minister's office, into the advertisements in the newspapers in Bennelong, and elsewhere, favouring this Prime Minister over Labor and Greens contenders.

Fine, but let that be open.

PETA DONALD: The Federal Police are still investigating political donations and the Exclusive Brethren. It's never declared any political donations, saying they've been made the group's members, and not the organisation itself.

The Opposition leader Kevin Rudd has refused to meet the Brethren - and he's suspicious Mr Howard has.

KEVIN RUDD: I believe this is an extremist cult, and sect. I also believe that it breaks up families.

I think Mr Howard has a responsibility to level with the Australian public, how much money has the Exclusive Brethren given the Liberal Party, what was the content of his most recent meeting with the Elected Vessel, and what undertakings have been given.

Remember, the Exclusive Brethren are currently under investigation by the Australian Federal Police concerning previous election activities.

Mr Howard needs to be fair dinkum with the Australian community, rather than pretending this is just, quote, some other group. They are not. They split families, and I am deeply concerned about their impact on communities across Australia.

Judge: Satanism Can't Be Issue In Cannibal Trial

Lazaro 'Hannibal' Galindo On Trial For Killing Romantic Rival, Eating Organs

Local10.com, FL
August 13, 2007

MIAMI -- Lazaro Galindo, who is accused of killing a romantic rival and eating his organs, acted as his own attorney during jury selection in his trial Monday.

Galindo criticized the media and asked potential jurors to keep their minds open to unfamiliar religions.

"Let's say the Church of Satan, some people don't think it exists, it actually exists, it actually has members," Galindo told potential jurors. "But we don't worship Satan, pray to Satan, sacrifice kids to Satan," he said.

Galindo, whom prosecutors have referred to as "Hannibal," will be representing himself against charges that he killed 44-year old Argelio Gonzalez -- reportedly a rival for his girlfriend's affections -- then dismembered the body and ate some of the organs in July 2000, according to Local 10's Glenna Milberg.

The crime was uncovered when children playing in a Miami park discovered body parts in a garbage can.

Before the proceedings Monday, Galindo told the judge he is no longer a member of the Church of Satan, and that he "found God" while in jail.
"I've converted to God, I found God," he said.

Assistant state attorney Herb Walker said Galindo had told investigators he had an insatiable desire to eat human flesh. Walker said he prepared for the trial by researching the history and culture of the Church of Satan.

Walker asked potential jurors if they would be able to consider witness testimony as evidence in the potential absence of physical evidence. When some of the jurors said they might have a difficult time doing so, Walker instructed them on Florida law.

During Galindo's turn with the jury pool, he hinted at his defense: "How many of you have ever been forced to do something, or manipulated by a higher authority than you?” he asked them, Milberg reported.

Galindo's long, rambling turn at the podium prompted Judge Peter Adrien to interrupt him several times to clarify for the jury pool what information Galindo was trying to elicit from them.

Satanist Confesses to Killing Baby

We'd be hearing about "false memories" again (based on fraudulent child psychology "experiments" of the sort fabricated by Elizabeth Loftus) from the CIA's cult apologists, eg. the FMSF or S.M. Elliott's disinfo-blog, but this time the child didn't live, and the killer confessed. They'll have to invent new reasons why the accused must be innocent so the public can go around parroting frauds, as usual, citing false statistics and bad-mouthing the victims, because the Mockingbird media won't report honestly on mind control issues and Good Germans take their programming without a note of skepticism. - AC

Jason Lambert

Father Arrested for Infant's Death
Aug 28, 2007

(Fort Wayne - WANE) The man accused of beating his 3-week-old son to death, says he practices satanism.

In a probable cause affidavit, 24-year-old Jason Lambert says satanism affects his ability to care about his child.

The affidavit shows Lambert said the baby was crying at the time of the incident, and that he has a hard time controlling his temper.

Lambert made his first appearance in court Tuesday morning. He'll likely be back in court by the end of the week.

It all started Friday, when paramedics and police were called to an apartment at the Coldwater Crossing complex, on a report of a child not breathing. By the time they got there, the baby had died.

An autopsy showed the child was the victim of a homicide. That's when police arrested Lambert, and charged him with Battery to a Child Causing Death, and Neglect of a Dependent Causing Death.

Police also questioned the baby's mother, but she is not under any suspicion and will not face any charges.

Goat Head Sent To Wis. Attorney In Gift Bag

Goat Had Threatening Note In Its Mouth, Police Say

WFTV - August 29, 2007

MILWAUKEE -- In the movie "The Godfather," a horse's head was used to intimidate, and that's what Milwaukee police said they think is behind the discovery of a bloody goat's head at an attorney's office.

Prominent Milwaukee-area defense attorney Robin Shellow has represented hundreds of clients, many of them convicted criminals, reported WISN-TV in Milwaukee.

So, the list of people who may have an ax to grind is long.

Milwaukee police said they are taking Monday's discovery outside Shellow's office very seriously.

The severed head of a goat was found near the corner of the building stuffed inside a pink gift bag.

A note, which police described as threatening, was in the goat's mouth. It contained a name, but apparently not the name of a suspect.

So far, Milwaukee police have been unable to trace where it came from. They have checked area meat-packing plants but found none that processed goats.

Shellow may be best known recently for representing one of the men convicted of slashing the tires of Republican campaign workers in Milwaukee during the 2004 presidential race.

She gave an apparent tongue-in-cheek statement:

"August 27th was a full moon and also a lunar eclipse. It is my understanding there haven't been any of our elected officials' sons or daughters charged with slashing tires or voter fraud, and since I haven't invented any new criminal defenses for any clients in the last few months, I assume the individual was trying to get my attention."

She said that whomever it is has her attention and that of police.
Shellow's comment about inventing a defense is a reference to national notoriety she gained in the 1990s for using the stress children suffer growing up in poverty as a criminal defense.

Police did not reveal what the note said.

Doug Guetzloe Under Fire For Alleged "Extortion"
http://www.wftv.com/news/10072833/detail.html

October 13, 2006

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Political consultant Doug Guetzloe was under more fire Friday. Eyewitness News has new information on how he allegedly tried to get Orange County schools to pay him, "or else," while the Orlando Magic coughed up $200,000 to keep him from opposing a new arena.

Investigators were not limiting their probe to political consultant Guetzloe. The school district attorney said "Ax the Tax" leader Doug Guetzloe offered himself as a hired gun to the district when it was pushing a sales tax hike for new school construction.

The school district's attorney said the implied threat was that if political consultant Guetzloe was not hired that he would fight the tax hike. The school district said it didn't bite and never hired Guetzloe.

The Orlando Magic admitted to paying Guetzloe a total of $200,000 in 2001 and in 2006. Both occasions were supposed to stop him from fighting against a new arena. Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty is a supporter of building a new arena, but was disappointed that Guetzloe was paid off to hush up.

“We cannot be a top-tiered community if we're going to have a reputation, along with some other challenges we have, that you have to have anybody paid to get decisions made,” Crotty said.

Former Orlando Magic executive Bob Poe was so concerned after he heard about the first payment the Magic made to Guetzloe that he reported an accusation of extortion to the State Attorney's Office.

Friday, the Orlando Magic said that their attorney, Hal Kantor, had said if the Magic didn't hire Guetzloe, opponents of a new arena would.

State Attorney's Office investigators said they were reviewing all the players in the transactions to see what their motives might have been and whether there was anything illegal involved.

“How deep is this? Are there are other things to be disclosed that we don't know about,” Crotty asked.

Kantor and his law firm, Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor and Reed would not speak to Eyewitness News.

Guetzloe denied the accusations of election law violations, campaign finance violations and of extortion that he is under investigation for.

Kicking the Dead: Gay Merv Griffin's Fascist Political Affiliations

" ... nobody knew what my political affiliations were."

" ... Griffin was a guest on FOX & Friends just last month. In what would be his last interview, Brian Kilmeade asked Griffin about his legacy and how his television show impacted politics: 'The Kennedy White House would call my producer,' Griffin said, 'so they became aware of how valuable the talk shows were to a candidate.'

"'The 23 years I did my show, nobody knew what my political affiliations were.' Merv Griffin was 82."

Censorship Intrigues - Flashback: Merv Griffin Blasts CBS as 'Cowardly' on Reagan Movie

By Brent Baker
August 13, 2007

... Word came Sunday that entertainment industry titan Merv Griffin passed away at age 82. Back in October of 2003, when CBS planned to air a derogatory mini-series about Ronald and Nancy Reagan, The Reagans, Griffin went onto MSNBC to denounce CBS as “cowardly” for belittling Ronald Reagan and distorting his record when the former President (who would die eight months later) was on his deathbed. Thanks to controversy over the movie, fueled in part by a letter from the MRC to all advertisers urging them to review the movie before placing ads and to consider what their customers would think of their support for such a disparaging portrait, CBS moved the movie to its Showtime pay cable movie channel.

An excerpt from the October 29, 2003 MRC CyberAlert:

Veteran television host and producer Merv Griffin, a long-time friend of Ronald and Nancy Reagan, appeared Tuesday night [October 28, 2003] on MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann and used the opportunity to blast CBS for “the most cowardly thing I’ve ever heard” over the reported tone and content of CBS’s upcoming mini-series, The Reagans. “It’s a cowardly act,” he charged, asking: “Is that what the 'C’ stands for in CBS?”

Griffin, the owner of the Beverly Hilton who created the Wheel of Fortune game show after many years as host of his own daytime Merv Griffin Show, relayed how Nancy Reagan feels “hurt” by the distorted portrayal.

Griffin laid into CBS for denigrating the Reagans when they “can’t fight back” since Ronald Reagan is “on his deathbed” and Nancy Reagan is taking care of him all day. An angry Griffin asserted:

“Here is a man who is on his deathbed. He’s in the last stages of Alzheimer’s, and a woman who has been sitting by the bedside there holding his hand for nine years, they can’t fight back. From what I’ve read, I have not seen the film, I have not read the script, but I have certainly seen enough excerpts from it in the promos. I mean it’s, I think it’s cowardly. I think it’s the most cowardly thing I’ve ever heard. I don’t understand my own medium which I’ve been in since the Dumont network. How can it be so cruel? That’s not, from what I’ve read in the scenes, that’s not Nancy and the President at all.”

But MSNBC delivered a cowardly act itself. As Griffin spoke, MRC analyst Brad Wilmouth noticed, on-screen text, below some historic video of Ronald and Nancy Reagan, read: “30 Members of Reagan Admin. Spent Time in Prison.”

That was the fourth an final information line MSNBC placed on screen toward the start of Griffin’s appearance by satellite from California. The previous three:

• “A U.S. Aircraft Carrier is Named After Reagan”

• “Nancy Reagan Refused to Live in CA Governor’s Mansion”

• “Reagan Was Named Spokesman for General Electric in 1950s”

Showtime ran the movie on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. An excerpt from my Monday, December 1, 2003 MRC CyberAlert about what I saw and several very negative newspaper reviews ...

Merv and the Right
From the Real Estalker Blog

"... Merv is a rare thing in the Hollywood establishment in that he's a staunch, right-wing conservative who donates large amounts of cash to Republican candidates. It's no secret Merv was best pals with Ronnie and Nancy Reagan, but he also has a friendly relationship with our current president. In a recent article in Rolling Stone, Merv had this to say about our dear leader: 'Oooooh, I love him, yes,' says Merv. 'He's funny, bright, intelligent and loves to have a good time.' Your Mama does not mean to get political here, but that scares the skin right off our bones.

"As all the children know, as long as Merv has been in the spot light, he has bobbed and weaved around publicly declaring his (homo)sexuality. When asked about it, he visibly bristles, often tries to change the subject to his one-time gal pal Eva Gabor, or makes some sort of unnerving quip as he did in a New York Times article when he said, 'I'm a quatre-sexual. I will do anything with anybody for a quarter.' What?!? ... "

Merv Griffin died a closeted homosexual
Reuters - Aug 16, 2007

I had more than a passing acquaintance with him, having worked on "The Merv Griffin Show" as a talent coordinator/segment producer in 1985-86 as the show was winding down. Around the office, Merv's being gay was understood but rarely discussed (and certainly never with him). We knew nothing of his relationships because he guarded his privacy fiercely, and we didn't pry.

Merv's secret gay life was widely known throughout showbiz culture, if not the wider America. It gained traction in 1991 when he was targeted in a pair of lawsuits: by "Dance Fever" host Denny Terrio, alleging sexual harassment; and by assistant Brent Plott seeking $200 million in palimony. Both ultimately were dismissed.

Over the past 16 years of his life, however, Griffin deflected the sexuality questions with a quip, determining that his private life remained nobody's business. He certainly didn't owe us an explanation, but maybe he owed it to himself to remove the suffocating veil he'd been forced to hide behind throughout his adult life. Then again, Merv carved his niche in the entertainment world at a time when being gay wasn't OK, when disclosure was unthinkable and the allegation alone could deep-six one's career.

Merv & me: Visits to mogul's world magical
By Francesca Donlan
Originally posted on August 27, 2007

I met Merv Griffin after his astrologer called me.

"You're the perfect person to interview him," said Dana Haynes, known as "Astrologer to the Stars."

She thought our planets and personalities were a good match. ...

Nancy Reagan was one of Merv's best friends.

He thought Ronald Reagan moved too quickly from presidency to ranch life. He thought maybe his brain slowed down too much. He also shared a birthday with Nancy Reagan — July 6 — and his interest in astrology. ...

In fact, he blames himself for the national media frenzy that ignited when he introduced astrologer Joan Quigley to Nancy Reagan. Quigley wrote a book and that caused a flurry of bad press. Merv never visited the White House after that controversy.

But that didn't stop him from believing in astrology. He hired Dana, a Palm Springs-based astrologer, to work at his Palm Springs hotel every Tuesday night. He enjoyed her predictions, which he believed in.

I met Dana when I wrote about her for The Desert Sun. One Tuesday night she called and asked me to come for drinks at the hotel with Merv and friends. It was a beautiful, warm, starry Palm Springs fall evening.

Merv ordered wine and chocolate souffles for everyone. We sat around a candlelit table outside the hotel facing thousands of roses in his amazing garden and I breathed all of it in. ... I had never imagined eating chocolate souffle under the stars with a billionaire and an astrologer. My planets were definitely aligned.

... I met him at his estate a few months later on a Sunday afternoon. We had lunch with retired Adm. Bill Narva, who spent 30 years as attending physician to presidents and the U.S. Congress, and his wife, Rose Narva, who managed many of Merv's hotel properties. They were very close friends with Merv and spent a lot of time together. ...

He and I both attended the 20th anniversary of the Betty Ford Center in January 2003. First ladies Nancy Reagan, Rosalynn Carter, Barbara Bush and Hillary Clinton attended her gala. Merv escorted Nancy Reagan. I covered it for the paper and waved to him across a very crowded room.

(White) House Calls
By Doug Vandewinckel

Rear Admiral William M. Narva earned his medical degree at Yale and his military rank in the U.S. Navy, and went on to treat every U.S. president from Lyndon Johnson to George H.W. Bush. But it all began in the Quonset huts of Hofstra College.

His patient roster reads like the glossary of an American history textbook...and no wonder. As a top Navy Medical Corps officer and, eventually, as the attending physician to the U.S. Congress, Rear Admiral William M. Narva spent nearly 30 years caring for our nation’s most prominent government and military leaders.

You have to respect a man who can casually recall both social and professional relationships with the likes of Senator Ted Kennedy, Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, the legendary Admiral Chester Nimitz and a rising young brigadier general named Colin Powell. ...

When he entered Yale Medical School in 1952, the realities of the military draft were still very much on would-be Dr. Narva’s mind. He decided to enlist as a naval officer and was commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He entered active duty in 1955, completed an internship at Bethesda, and his residency in dermatology and infectious diseases at the naval hospitals in San Diego and Oakland. ...

Fortunately, my wife, Rose, is not only a brilliant businesswoman in her own right, but also the consummate Navy wife. ‘You know you’ll never forgive yourself if you don’t take this job,’ she said. So we packed up and headed back east.”

On to the White House

Since 1928, the U.S. Navy Medical Corps has attended to the medical needs of Congress and, by extension, most officials in the U.S. government. Less than six weeks after arriving at Bethesda, Lt. Commander William Narva found himself in the White House master bedroom examining President Lyndon Baines Johnson (who he describes as “larger than life, and probably the most intimidating man I’ve ever met”). It would be the first of many presidential encounters; in fact, Admiral Narva went on to consult with every president from Johnson to the senior George H. W. Bush before his retirement in 1990. ...

“In the 1970s, Rose was the first woman to become the general manager of a major hotel,” Admiral Narva says with evident pride and admiration. “She was managing the Jefferson Hotel in its heyday, when it was frequented by people like the Washington Post’s Katherine Graham and Benjamin Bradlee, and CIA Director Bill Casey and six Cabinet officers, including Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger and Attorney General William French Smith. In fact, the Jefferson became known around town as ‘White House North.’ So it was only natural we’d get together socially with some prominent people.”

Over the years, Admiral Narva found himself in the company of many of the top players in Washington’s inner circle, whether it was playing tennis with Vice President Spiro Agnew and Senator Charles Percy, or sharing coffee with President George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara. Thus it was that when the time came to replace Congress’ attending physician in 1986, five names were submitted to the Congressional leadership as per protocol, but Admiral William Narva was the immediate and unanimous choice. ...

Shortly after his appointment, a Washington Post reporter cornered him with a thorny question: why was a dermatologist chosen to be the attending physician of Congress? Admiral Narva responded with the glib, disarming humor that had become his trademark.

“I asked the fellow, ‘How long have you been a reporter in this town?’ ‘Fifteen years,’ he said. I replied, ‘After 15 years in Washington, you haven’t learned how thin-skinned American politicians are?’We had a good laugh, and the story went nowhere.” ...

In 1990, early in the first Bush administration, Admiral Narva was finally allowed to hang up his stethoscope...at least as far as the U.S. government was concerned. Retirement from the Navy did not mean retirement from medicine, however, and Admiral Narva became a highly sought-after consultant, lecturer and adviser at several prominent institutions,
including Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.

Later, when his wife, Rose, opened the first Givenchy Spa in Palm Springs, the couple relocated to the West Coast once more, where Admiral Narva served on the boards of a number of medical and charitable organizations in California.

Today, Admiral Narva is happy to be Rose’s full-time “prince consort,” while she continues her own highly successful career. And instead of two- and three-star admirals, he’s rubbing elbows with stars of a different stripe: including Apollo 11 moonwalker Buzz Aldrin, and entertainment moguls like Merv Griffin and Jackie Cooper. But he and Rose have also kept in close touch with old friends from Washington, including former First Lady Nancy Reagan, with whom they share a special bond.

Response to S.M. Elliott

Elliott writes at the BlueApples blog writes:

First I was an accessory to war crimes after the fact...

Now I'm with the CIA.

Apparently, I'm busier than I seem. Here I really thought I was accomplishing something this week by getting my two favorite Sims to fall in love with other.

Below is a message posted by writer Alex Constantine on his blog Alex Constantine's Blacklist. I don't mind being mistaken for a man or a mole, but being accused of watching Fox News... that just hurts. ...

This is frightfully ironic. You see, I actually like Alex Constantine. I read his book about the FBI's COINTELPRO campaigns against the music industry, and it was excellent (I was particularly disturbed by the hateful anti-hippie cartoons of Al Capp).

Constantine is the intellectual heir apparent to Mae Brussell, an intriguing lady. Ah, well. I already knew that mole-sniffing is an art, and like all art is subjective: My grandmother, off her meds, once accused my mother of being an FBI agent who had something to do with the murder of MLK. She was 13 when he died.

I guess this is my Plamegate. I already went through a presidential scandal involving naughty stuff in an office (no cigars or stains, though).

That said, there is nothing funny about Satanic panic. It has ruined lives, careers, families, and entire communities, and continues to do so. I may joke on this blog, but The Devil Appears is serious.

To: S.M. Elliott:

"Heir" to Mae Brussell ... the latest murder attempt destroyed my favorite van. But I should complain - Mae Brussell's daughter was killed in an orchestrated car crash. (The drunken, off-duty Marine who ran into the car never so much as appeared in court.) I should be dead many times over, too, but survived to tell you to suck an egg.

If you like and trust my research, then you know that aspartame is formaldehyde - it is very toxic. A friend of mine has lost most of his eyesight as a result of drinking beverages "sweetened" with the toxin.

And you deny it. I challenged you to produce documentation that aspartame is safe.

You posted nada.

I don't like toxic lies. You tried to discredit my work on aspartame, a personal consumer issue. I'm trying to save lives by getting the uninformed off the toxin - you tried to stop me.

Do you take pride in injuring your readers?

Ridicule me again ... you lost the debate and have nothing left to say.

I said that you received your "knowledge" of Duncan's "suicide" from Kate Coe - a Murdoch operative. Coe is from the Ann Coulter circle. Then told you to watch Fox. You took information from Coe, are a mind controlled zombie, apparently.

And a liar. Live with the disrepute you deserve. I gave it to you, will be happy to dress you up in it again anytime. Lie about me or my work again, I will ask for more documentation on a statement that you can't support. You'll have to babble about "meds" - liars can't support their claims. And you know that the heir of Mae Brussell's ... problems ... will break you off at the knees with research.

- AC

PS: "Satanic Panic" is one of your many undocumentable (when you get down to it) lies. Been there, done that. You and the False Memory Syndrome Foundation exist to discredit the victims of mind control activity. I exposed the FMSF long ago. You I'm exposing now. Same kettle of fish. Wallow in it. You are a collaborator in crimes aginst children, and don't want to come across as that. Too bad. I see you for what you are. That's what Constantines do. Poison yourself with asparatame, for all I care. It's the innocent that I'm trying to protect. The moles should follow their own advice on aspartame. Where's the libel suit? Haven't I defamed you by labelling you publicly as a mole? No. You deny it indirectly, by suggestion, above, but aren't you angry? I would be. I'd probably threaten to sue. But you take it in stride. Good little mole. I like you, too.

Another CIA Mockingbird ID'd: LA Times Columnist Meghan Daum

By Alex Constantine

As I write this, a ranking employee of the LA Times, asked about literatum and Op-Ed columnist Meghan Daum, just explained to me across my desk: "I have no idea why she was hired. She came out of nowhere, and then all of the sudden she's a columnist at the Op-Ed page. I never understood why she was hired. She had no qualifications. And her writing is boring."

An explanation: The Times' Op-Ed page is run by Jim Newton - who I have (unfortunately) met and identified as a remnant of COINTELPRO a few weeks ago in relation to the suppression of FBI malfeasance in Los Angeles. There are people sitting in prison due to the illicit legal maneuvers of the FBI, and Newton knows it, suppressed the evidence, and is now editor of the Op-Ed page at the LA Times. (How to get ahead in the press: lie flagrantly for the intelligence community.)

Like her boss, Daum covers for CIA crimes. She's a media mole. I've examined her canon.

This swipe at "conspiracy theorists" - one of many in the media lately that were likely based on a CIA talking points memo - was propaganda formula for donut heads: "Why conspiracy theories won't die - The belief in dark forces can exert a mesmeric hold," by Meghan Daum, Christian Science Monitor, August 15, 2007.

She writes in the LA Times: "Who killed Antioch? Womyn - The college went from liberal bastion to PC laughingstock with its sex and dating policy":

"ON JUNE 12, the board of trustees of Antioch College, the famously countercultural institution in Yellow Springs, Ohio, announced that the campus would shut down next year. The decision is a result of declining enrollment, insufficient alumni support and facilities so neglected that, according to several reports, some buildings don't have hot water. Earlier this year, a number of faculty members were laid off. Meanwhile, student enrollment, which had been about 2,000 in the college's 1960s heyday, has dwindled to about 400. ... "

Letter sent to Meghan Daum this evening:

Ms. Daum: I'm going to write about your published disinformation, and would like to quote your explanation for filtering information about the CIA and fall of Antioch College. The truth you are concealing is here, and you had to go around the block to avoid writing about it:

See: "Did U.S. intelligence assets kill Antioch College?"

Please respond with some kind of intelligent explanation, if you can dream one up, as you try to do with the "reporting."

Suicide-Murder in Orlando: Who is Robert Drake?

Excerpt from: http://crimeblog.us/?p=536

Drake

... The name “Drake” has been mysteriously associated with the January 24, 2007 murder of gay porn producer Bryan Kocis since early in the investigation.

Bryan Kocis was 44 when he was stabbed 28 times and his home in Luzerne County PA set on fire. He’d already been in trouble with the law himself.

In 2001 Kocis taped himself having sex with a 15-year-old boy. Kocis pled guilty in 2002 to the charge that he’d sexually abused a child, and Judge Michael Conahan gave Kocis one year of probation. A mitigating circumstance in Kocis’s case allegedly was his claim that he didn’t know the boy was underage.

When Bryan Kocis was murdered, (his house was also burgled before it was burned), he was embroiled in another controversy — a gay porn actor, Brent Corrigan (real name: Sean Lockhart), was alleging that he was still underage when he made some movies for Bryan Kocis’s Cobra Video.

Naturally, some suspicion first fell on Corrigan after Kocis was murdered. It appeared that his conflict with Kocis was still in the Internet pissing match stage on January 24, but it would be an understatement to say that some gay-themed blogs were abuzz like agitated hives of Africanized honeybees over the whole deal after it was learned that Kocis had been the victim of a homicide.

But when two men were arrested in connection with the murder of Bryan Kocis, they were picked up in Virginia. Harlow Cuadra, 26, and Cuadra’s business partner and housemate Joseph Kerekes, age 33, are currently in Pennsylvania awaiting trial on charges inculding conspiracy, homicide, arson, and abuse of a corpse.

Investigators believe that while Cuadra and Kerekes ran a male prostitution service out of their home at 1028 Stratem Court in Virginia Beach they were also plotting to take out Bryan Kocis.

Kocis and Cobra Video were competition for Cuadra and Kerekes.

Online, Joseph Kerekes used the e-mail nick stareyes23510 (source for this information was the domain registration record for NorfolkMaleEscorts.com). A Web search for that handle revealed many ads placed by a male escort in Northern Virginia named “Trent,” who advertised himself as “your typical All-American pretty boy.” “Trent” aimed to fulfill his clients’ “wildest dreams.” The same search also showed that Kerekes (and presumably Cuadra) were associated with the URL boisrus.com. The domain registration info for that URL showed it was run by “Norfolk Companions,” and the same stareyes23510 screen name was entered in the boisrus.com registration record.

A Google search of “Norfolk Companions” indicated that it was the name for a manufacturer of gay porn DVDs with titles like Young Bucks in Heat. Products being sold by Harlow Cuadra and Joe Kerekes via the “Norfolk Companions” name would have indeed been in direct competition with Cobra Video products. Both seemed to target a specific audience in the gay community — viewers who liked porn featuring men who were supposed to be legal adults but appeared to be younger than 18 years of age.

One theory about the murder of Bryan Kocis does incorporate the conflict he was having with “Brent Corrigan.” It appears that in addition to Cobra Video producing movies targeting the same audience coveted by Norfolk Companions, Harlow Cuadra and Joe Kerekes had their eyes on having Corrigan be in their movies.

Where would “Drake” have fit into this bizarre series of events and allegations?

Authorities in Pennsylvania began looking for Kocis’s killer with only the name “Drake” to go on.

Prior to his death Kocis had planned a meeting at his home in Dallas Township with a man named Drake. He’d received a photo of Drake via e-mail and Drake was supposed to talk over a modeling job with Kocis.

The fire at Kocis’s residence on January 24 was first reported over an hour after that scheduled meeting with “Drake.”

The photo Kocis allegedly received of Drake may have been a photo of Harlow Cuadra.

In March of 2007 The Virginian-Pilot published an article addressing Cuadra and “Drake.” A quote from that piece, authored by Duane Bourne and Jon Frank:

[Cuadra] has not denied being the man in the photograph. […] Cuadra’s photo is easily available on the Internet and […] Cuadra has often had it stolen before and used by other people involved in the male modeling and escort businesses.

[…]

Cuadra told the Times Leader in Wilkes-Barre that he was not acquainted with Kocis and was with a client for three hours in Virginia Beach on the night Kocis was killed.

A telephone message at Norfolk Male Escorts said Cuadra was one of 40 male escorts and is now starring in a new porno-graphic film with “Drake.” Cuadra told the Times Leader that he met Drake at a recent adult film convention.

The plot may have thickened a bit in the comments left on yet another blog.

El Mysterio (link basically NSFW) says he is “Just you’re [sic] above average super sexy super-model type who does not want to be judged on his extraordinary beauty but on his really extremely high intellect.”

On April 7, 2007, El Mysterio wrote an entry about Bryan Kocis’s murder titled “Lies Trickery Fabrication Deceit.” The blogger made some interesting points about the conflict between Kocis and Corrigan/Lockhart, but just as interesting was this comment left on the post by “mark@www.boisrus.com” on April 9. It alluded to the first time authorities entered the home shared by Cuadra and Kerekes and added a first name for the “Drake” associated with both Kocis and Cuadra — emphasis has been added:

TO INTERJECT ON A HAPPY NOTE!!! Harlow & Joe are staying put in their home in Va Beach and are repairing the SWAT damage this week! ALSO AS I WRITE THIS MEMO …Harlow is filming his newest XXX blockbuster in Va Beach with NEW STUD Jakob Drake and Harlow…wild stuff too!!!!

One article about Robert Jason Drake seemed to indicate that he may have gone by his middle name. A name not too different from “Jakob.”

Norfolk to Orlando?

If a fatal dispute finally bubbled up between Ralph Gonzalez and Robert Drake last week, the dispute could have been purely financial, and had nothing to do with sexuality. Such volatile situations typically seem to revolve around two fundamental human motivations — greed and lust.

The AP published a story on August 24 indicating that the murder-suicide in Orlando might have been a lovers’ quarrel. But as Towleroad noted, they later scrubbed any references in the story to homosexuality, or the murders and suicide being related to a “lovers’ quarrel.”

So in the traditional media, references to any of the dead men in Ralph Gonzalez’s home being gay have been almost non-existent. In part that may have been because one of the men, David Abrami, was not gay, and many newswriters on deadline don’t have the time or inclination to stop and make distinctions. (It may have been Abrami’s girlfriend in North Carolina who first alerted police to something being wrong at the house in Orlando. See the comments left on the first CrimeBlog.US version of the entry about the murder-suicide for statements regarding Abrami and his friendship with Gonzalez.)

Comments left on this blog, discussions on other blogs and some news accounts did suggest that Gonzalez was “out” to his friends, and that Robert Jason Drake was formerly a roommate of Gonzalez’s.

WFTV reported that Drake did a four-year stint in the Marines. The TV station’s article stated that Drake had been living with his aunt and uncle in East Orlando for at least 6 months and had worked as tiler for his uncle.

As a Marine, the chances for Robert Drake to pass through Norfolk, VA were many. No less than the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command is located in Norfolk, at the Naval Station there. If Drake was at Camp LeJeune or perhaps stationed in San Diego, then the likelihood of his somehow having been connected to Harlow Cuadra and Joe Kerekes was slim. If Drake’s time in the Corps was spent stateside in Norfolk and he was gay, the possibility that Drake may have known about “Norfolk Companions” or NorfolkMaleEscorts.com increases.

Dates of hearings in the Cuadra/Kocis case line up to some degree with the assertions made by Zenoble in his comment on the Brad Blog post. They may also square with one statement Robert Drake reportedly made.

Zenoble: “Robert Drake was trying to hit Gonzalez up for cash to raise money to defend a kid who is on trial for murder up in Pennsylvania.”

Preliminary hearings in the Kocis murder began Monday, August 20. Two days prior to that, it was reported that the house owned by Harlow Cuadra and Joe Kerekes was on the market. Police in Orlando believe Gonzalez, Abrami, and Drake may have died on Tuesday, August 21. The hearings in Pennsylvania continued on August 23.

It was hard to not make note of one of Drake’s relatives reporting that he’d said 6 weeks ago that he was having problems with a friend that apparently made him angry enough to be homicidal.

Harlow Cuadra and Joe Kerekes were finally extradited from Virginia to Pennsylvania about 6 weeks prior to the murder-suicide in Orlando, in early July, 2007. Around that time it became clear that the assets owned by both men were also up for forfeiture, allegations of prostitution in part making up the state of Virginia’s argument for seizing the pair’s assets.

If Robert Jason Drake was indeed trying to get Ralph Gonzalez to give some financial aid to Harlow Cuadra and/or Joe Kerekes, it seems logical to think that the issue would have come up between Drake and Gonzalez over 6 weeks ago, when it became clear the men in Virginia were being extradited and losing their money, as well. It makes sense too that Drake would have been in crisis mode again on August 21st — gruesome testimony about Kocis’s murder (he was nearly decapitated) given on August 20 in the preliminary hearings for Cuadra and Kerekes in Pennsylvania already seemed to be pointing towards the men heading to trial.

Harlow Cuadra and Joe Kerekes had up to 40 escorts in their employ at one point. As the Jeff Gannon/Guckert scandal from a few years ago demonstrated, there seems to be some market in Northern Virginia for male escorts with military “looks” — close-cropped or shaven heads, clean-cut appearances overall, muscular physiques. If Drake was gay, could he have been making money on the side, and come to know Cuadra and Kerekes that way?

Clandestine ties between men ultimately linking a violent homicide in Pennsylvania with a double murder and suicide in Florida 7 months later may not be the politically-charged conspiracy some seem ready to believe this story to be. If those ties do exist, though, it doesn’t matter if politics are only incidental to the story of Ralph Gonzalez, Robert Jason Drake, and David Abrami. The story would still be as weird and complicated as any tale of murder ever gets.

Finally, while some of the statements made by “Zenoble” at The Brad Blog could be made to dovetail with what was known about the murders in Florida and the murder last January in Pennsylvania, one of his assertions couldn’t be addressed. Zenoble wrote that Robert Drake might make “THE REPUBLICAN CLIENT LIST OF THE GAY ESCORT BUSINESS PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE” if Ralph Gonzalez didn’t help fund the defense of Harlow Cuadra and Joe Kerekes.

This statement can be taken one of at least two ways — either the person making it is full of it and spinning a conspiracy theory, or there may be a client list of Republicans who used the services of NorfolkMaleEscorts.com.

If the latter possibility came true, then another story of prostitution and “client lists” from earlier in 2007 would pale in comparison.
