McCain Refuses to Renounce Hagee's Endorsement

On the use of false parallels to discredit whistle-blowers: " ... Democrats quoted Hagee as saying the Catholic Church conspired with Nazis against the Jews ... " This is one of the rare rational statements John Hagee has ever uttered (see the op-ed letter appended below). The Democrats revise history - David Irving-style - to condemn him. " ... and that Hurricane Katrina was God's retribution for homosexual sin ... " This is a common psychological manipulation, and the media play these linguistic games constantly - pair an insane fantasy with a concealed historical fact, and they both get filed under "Nutball." The false parallel never fails to fool the proles. I was always partial to "belief in aliens and conspiracy in the Kennedy assassination," as if there is ground for comparison. PHOENIX—John McCain is refusing to renounce the endorsement of a prominent Texas televangelist who Democrats say peddles anti-Catholic and other intolerant speech.

Instead, the Republican presidential candidate issued a statement Friday afternoon saying he had unspecified disagreements with the San Antonio megachurch leader, John Hagee. Hagee endorsed him at a news conference Wednesday in San Antonio.

"However, in no way did I intend for his endorsement to suggest that I in turn agree with all of Pastor Hagee's views, which I obviously do not," McCain said in the statement.

His campaign issued the statement after two days of criticism from the Democratic National Committee, the Catholic League and Catholics United.

Democrats quoted Hagee as saying the Catholic Church conspired with Nazis against the Jews and that Hurricane Katrina was God's retribution for homosexual sin, and they recited his demeaning comments about women and flip remarks about slavery.

"Hagee's hate speech has no place in public discourse, and McCain's embrace of this figure raises serious questions about John McCain's character and his willingness to do anything to win," said Tom McMahon, executive director of the Democratic National Committee. ..."

Editor, The Record:

The Pocono Record reports of the Pope's publication of a 76-page encyclical in which he blames atheists and modern (Protestant) Christians for the "greatest forms of cruelty and violations of justice ever known."

The encyclical cites, among others, the French Revolution, Karl Marx, and the subsequent failings of 20th Century Communism.

These were, indeed, protracted and bloody social events. Many people in those times were attempting to emerge from the Dark Ages by any means possible.

The encyclical, however, neglects to mention "The Inquisitions" or the tacit support of Germany's National Socialist Party in just this past century. Indeed, these are just two of the many sustained acts of criminal injustice inflicted on humanity by the Roman Catholic Church. Can anyone deny these events and who is responsible? Are the Pope and his regime in any position to point an accusing finger?

Most atheists are not born as atheists. They adopt that philosophy, probably most of them at least, after experiencing the hypocrisy and disillusionment of organized religion.

Then you have the gall to point a finger at those "Protest-ants" who have exposed and rebelled against two thousand years of a bloody and corrupt Roman Catholic hierarchy. If the Pope can't publish the truth, and the whole truth, then the Pope should not publish at all.

How now, brown cow?
