MEXICO CITY: A conservative civic group says it is withdrawing a controversial television spot comparing a leftist Mexican leader to Adolf Hitler because the ad has fulfilled its purpose.
The Better Society, Better Government group says the advertisement comparing Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to Hitler has prompted a national debate over a blockade of Congress by the leftist's followers.
The group said the ad stopped running Monday.
In the ad, a narrator asks: "What kind of people close down congresses?" Then answers: "Adolf Hitler in 1933."
Lopez Obrador's supporters took over the chambers of both houses of Congress on April 10 to block government proposals to ease restrictions on private investment in the state oil industry.
